Adam is a composer, performer and multi-instrumentalist based in Melbourne, Australia.
He has always been interested in overlapping his jazz roots with the realms of funk, rap and outer space.
Major influences are: Prince and the Minneapolis sound, New Orleans funk, stride piano, and Afrofuturistic bands such as Parliament, Sun Ra Arkestra and Janelle Monáe. Film noir, science fiction cinema and comic books also figure prominently in his work
Adam takes these inspirations and moulds them into his own personal artistic vision which he calls the Funk Noir Universe.
Adam is the pianist and musical director of Henry Manetta and The Trip, the keyboardist in Glasfrosch, and is involved with many other freelance projects. He has also recorded two full-length solo albums, Transmogrify (2004) and Bayou Tapestry (2011), and three EPs, Rhymes with Donkey, Well Kept Woman and Cyberblanca.
In August 2013 Adam released a future noir funk tune called ‘Velcr0′, produced by Wayne “Lotek” Bennett (Speech Debelle, Roots Manuva). He also directed the accompanying video, which you can watch here!
In addition to performing, for the last 5 years Adam has presented the jazz show Black Wax every Monday on Melbourne’s own PBS 106.7fm. He has had the pleasure on interviewing many local and international performers including Meshell Ndegeocello, John Medeski, Robert Glasper, Gregory Porter, Branford Marsalis, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Allen Toussaint.
