New Album ‘The Bowie Project’ available to listen/buy now!

Posted by on Jun 14, 2015

Great news! My new album ‘The Bowie Project” is OUT NOW! It’s available to stream or buy on BANDCAMP.

Following a SOLD OUT album launch at Stonnington Jazz Festival in May, and with special performances at ACMI coming up in July as part of the “David Bowie Is” Exhibition and Symposium, The Bowie Project is capturing jazz and Bowie fans alike with its dynamic and vibrant instrumental jazz interpretations of the compositions of one of pop’s most iconic figures. Read my interview with SpeakerTV about the Bowie Project HERE.

Come on a starry odyssey though all eras of Bowie, from Hunky Dory to The Next Day! By stripping away the lyrics, and presenting the music as instrumental jazz arrangements, the full ingenuity of David Bowie’s compositional prowess can be explored.

Already a favourite of Bowie Downunder (the official Australia/New Zealand Bowie Fan Club), the project has drawn some significant word-of-mouth buzz, particularly in the lead-up to the “Bowie Is…” exhibition at ACMI in the second half of the year.

The group were very excited to hit the recording studio with acclaimed producer Myles Mumford (Way Out West, Barney McCall, Black Jesus Experience) in mid-April to document some of these exciting re-imaginings. The quintet features my friends Thom Mitchell (drums), Adam Spiegl (bass), and the intensely vibing horn section of Daimon Brunton (trumpet) and Luke Carbon (sax).

PRESS QUOTES:

“I enjoyed the CD. Very creative and great choice of tunes… lovely band too with cool arrangements. ” – Mike Garson (David Bowie’s pianist)

“Rudegeair has a knack of picking out the melody and themes, allowing us a new appreciation of the originals while opening our ears to the possibilities of jazz. To do that via my all-time favourite songs, as a music list ener, I could not ask for more!” -Adam Dean, Bowie Downunder

“Jazz at its best. Virtuosic. Irreverent. Dangerous.” -Skylashes.com.au, October 10, 2014
